Susan is a music therapist, sound healer and teacher involved in working with music and sound as instruments of therapy, transformation and healing.

As a Music Therapist:  Susan works in a variety of settings;  Adults and children with a range of special needs, Bournemouth and Christchurch NHS partnership work with those coping with neurodegenerative disorders, at the Sheiling School (a residential setting for children with PMLD and autism) and project work out in the community. She has recently been working collaboratively with a speech and language therapy colleague, developing interactive story-telling and music with children in a residential setting. Susan is therapy team leader at the Coda Music Trust in Dorset.

Guided Imagery with Music (GIM):  In 2004 Susan undertook additional music therapy training in GIM with Dr Torben Moe (Denmark) and Dr Leslie Bunt. She was awarded her fellowship status of the Association of Music and Imagery (FAMI) in Norway in 2008.
The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music is a music-oriented exploration of consciousness. It offers persons the opportunity to integrate mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of well-being, as well as awaken to a greater transcendent identification. It is practiced primarily in psychotherapy and counseling settings. Specifically sequenced classical music programs are used to stimulate and sustain a dynamic unfolding of inner experiences.  See the AMI website.
In addition to working in private practice with self-referred adults and students, Susan has found that her training in GIM has informed her regular music therapy practice.

Sound Healing:  Susan studied sound healing with Jonathan Goldman (Boulder, Colorado), Liz Cooper (BAST). Sound healing works with vibration and intention to promote well-being. Susan works with the client or group, using a combination of Himalayan bowls, crystal singing bowls, gongs and toning, to promote harmony and health.

As a musician:  Several recording projects, with a spiritual/healing intention, have arisen through following this relationship with sound;
"The At-ma Project – City in the Sky", with Russell Stone and Craig Pruess
"Rainbow Peace", with Frank Perry and Bill Martin
"Rivers of Sound", with Russell Stone, Alexander Massey and Sarah Verney Caird (‘Four’)
"The Journey", with Sarah Verney Caird
"Four Mediations", with Frank Perry
"Light and Sound", with Ravi, Frank Perry and others.
"Deva Music", with Michael Maxwell Steer
(CD recordings are available - Contact me.)
In addition to her work as an accompanist, Susan is a member of ‘Safehouse’ (an experimental and free jazz collective meeting at the Lighthouse in Poole). Sarah and Susan also perform together, recent examples include a concerto of directed improvisation for music therapists by Gill Stevens, featuring Sarah as vocal soloist and Susan on Crystal singing bowls, which took place at St Luke’s Hall, London (2008).

As a Workshop Leader and teacher:  Susan runs retreats and other events with Sarah. She is an associate lecturer in community music and improvisation, at Chichester University, working alongside Dr Rod Paton.  Susan also runs training in using music to support communication and interaction for people living and working with those with extra special needs.

“Music has been a constant companion in my life, through its depths and heights. I am passionately committed to helping others to move forward with joy on their own musical journey.”
